UC Davis has a goal to supply 100% renewable energy to campus by 2025. A significant component of achieving this goal is our 14MW solar farm, the largest behind the meter solar installation on a university in the country. This installation creates an issue that also reflects the solar-heavy California electrical grid: net demand is high in the evening hours when prices are high. In an effort to mitigate this, Facilities Management staff have created a framework of efforts to address this issue including: industrial scale load shifting, demand response in fleet of buildings, battery backups, etc.
