Deployment of the PI System and Advanced Analytics in Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing (Janssen and Sartorius Stedim Data Analytics)
Throughout biopharmaceutical manufacturing non-conformances, product loss and quality is impacted through unforeseen issues. Applying analytics in real-time has revolutionized the way in which Janssen approach and prevent unwanted deviations in manufacturing.
Projects at the Leiden and Cork large molecule sites align with Manufacturing For the Future (MFF) to deliver customer value and enable business growth and profitability. The PI System and SIMCA-online are cornerstones of this program providing infrastructure and a real-time view of process execution. Open loop optimization suggests set-points for manipulated variables during operation to meet objectives such as maximizing yield, steady production rate, or optimizing CQA’s.
The talk will highlight how the capability to process live data is now a requisite for successful realization of Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) in pursuit of improved industrial performance, with benefits in efficiency, lesser costs and reduced risk.
Erik is Sr. Lead Data Analytics within then Operations Bioprocessing Technology group at Janssen Biologics in Leiden, Netherlands. Erik has a background in Biochemical Engineering and extensive experience with large scale production systems due to his former role as system owner within the Operations department. Also as a former lead for implementation of new products & systems Erik has an extensive knowledge of large molecule production process and the challenges associated with implementation and optimization of these processes. In Janssen Biologics Erik is now the lead for the implementation of new data analytics and automation solutions and is currently leading the deployment of Real Time Multivariate Analysis (RT-MVA) within production for both commercial and clinical production processes.

Patrick works in the area of Multivariate Analysis across Janssen’s Large & Small Molecule Platform with responsibility for Multivariate Analysis Model Construction, Data Connectivity and Deployment on the Cork Large Molecule site. He continues to be an active member in the academic community guest lecturing on the area of advanced analytics and its place in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical sector both today and in the future to Biotechnology & Data Analytics students in local Universities in Ireland.
Sartorius Stedim Data Analytics
Anna is a Principal Data Scientist with Sartorius Stedim Data Analytics. She has over 15 years of experience providing solutions of advanced data analytics to the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industry. Anna has a Master’s degree in Engineering Chemistry with a focus on chemometrics from Umea University, she specializes in process chemometrics and is based in New York City.
