Solution Overview
Viewport is a software solution that provides your enterprise with easy access to your existing engineering content residing in various business applications. It uses AI and Machine Learning technology to provide real-time data from the OSIsoft® PI System® inside any type of content, such as P&IDs, PDFs, procedures, pointclouds, etc. Viewport provides an integrated view of your asset information, enabling better decision making, higher speed and quality of work preparation, increased hands-on tool time, and a safer working environment.
The Viewport Connector for OSIsoft® PI System® is developed to retrieve and visualize real-time data, as well as historical trends, right inside existing drawings and documentation. By displaying data from the PI system in the right context, situational awareness and understanding of the plant or equipment are improved vastly. By leveraging mappings defined in OSIsoft PI AF, Viewport unlocks valuable information to end-users via an easy-to-use web application.
The Viewport Connector for OSIsoft® PI System® significantly improves the operational safety and efficiency:
- Important documents, such as P&IDs, are made available in a web-based environment
- It requires minimal training to use
- Allows you to observe historic trends and current process values from OSIsoft PI on any device
- Compare the live status with planned work activities on site (requires the LiveWorks plugin)
- Gives maintenance and operations personnel unprecedented insight, increasing situational awareness
Solution Approach
The Viewport Connector for OSIsoft® PI System® requires a web server running the companion Viewport Operations software. The connector includes a web service that connects to your PI Asset Framework (PI AF) system. The web service requests process data via PI AF which is used to map P&ID tags to the relevant PI tag(s).
In case you do not have Viewport Operations, PI AF, or a usable PI AF database, don't worry. It can be set up as part of the implementation process. Our toolset includes a PI AF database "generator" that can be used to populate your PI AF database using an extract from a maintenance management system or a plant breakdown structure, in Excel or CSV format.
Once Viewport Operations and the Viewport Connector for OSIsoft® PI System® are up and running and the PI AF database is in place, any documents that you want to use as a basis for viewing the PI data need to be indexed. Off-the-shelf components are available for indexing network shares, SharePoint, OpenText, etc. These components ensure staff see the latest approved or as-built versions of P&IDs, drawings, procedures, and other schematics.
