Solution Overview
Despite the push towards automation, a significant amount of process data is not collected and recorded automatically. Making manual Inspection Rounds an essential data collection process that must be conducted efficiently and ideally linked to real-time systems such as the OSIsoft PI System®. j5 Inspection Rounds is used on industry standard mobile devices based on popular operating systems. Allowing personnel to collect a sequence of measurements or observations according to a predefined plan. Typically, by following a route around a site, recording readings and answering questions about the status of equipment and processes, whilst optionally attaching photos, videos and notes to provide additional information. The j5 Inspection Rounds Desktop Configuration and Management application allows Inspection Rounds to be created according to a recurring schedule – for example daily or monthly rounds – or as a once-off round. Personnel can also easily view past, current and future Inspection Rounds. j5 Inspection Rounds can be used to collect manual data that is Missing from DCS, SCADA, or the OSIsoft PI System. For example, j5 Mobile data can be written into the OSIsoft PI System, providing a clearer record of events happening across an industrial site.
j5 Mobile Inspection Rounds streamlines each step of the Inspection Round process - design, work-flow, scheduling, execution, recording, handling exceptions, reporting, notifications, review, oversight and data retrieval - and helps ensure that rounds are carried out consistently in accordance with agreed standards. This results in improved data accuracy, sharing, availability and integration with other applications; improved identification and responses to issues; more efficient and productive operations; extended equipment lives; reduced manual reliance and improved morale.
Solution Approach
The j5 Inspection Rounds mobile application has been tested for use with selected ecom, iOS, Panasonic, Samsung and Windows hardened devices, including Class 1 Division 1 (inquire for details), with the option of utilising SAP Mobile Platform (SMP) on a separate server. j5 Inspection Rounds are retrieved by the application and cached offline. Previous values and trends are displayed. Task values captured by the application user are submitted back to the j5 Operations Management Software database. j5 Inspection Rounds can also be completed via the desktop web browser interface. Information from j5 Inspection Rounds is also included in j5 Dashboards, Reports and Views. The configuration of j5 Inspection Rounds takes place in a standard desktop web browser interface.
