Solution Overview
At the enterprise level data sources and data flows are incredibly complex.
Different sites may have different software and hardware solutions, which can
lead to silos of information, fragmented technology platforms and data sources,
limited interoperability, and an inability to enable enterprise-wide workflows. How
can industrial end users leverage the tools and technology that they have already
invested in so their technology works together for reduced maintenance costs
and increased operational efficiency? Powered by the PI System, the Emerson
Plantweb Advisor Suite consists of three applications: Plantweb Health Advisor,
Plantweb Performance Advisor, and Plantweb Energy Advisor. This application
suite provides an enterprise-wide solution to monitor asset health, performance,
and energy usage.
With the Health Advisor application, companies can see overall equipment
health; receive early warning on equipment degradation to prevent leaks,
fires and emissions; reduce repeat failures of equipment; reduce unplanned
maintenance costs; perform only maintenance that is determined to be
necessary; improve operational decision-making across departments;
and provide timely information to quickly identify abnormal situations. The
Performance Advisor makes it possible to see how well an asset is doing its
job, understand the financial impact of equipment performance, and ultimately,
optimize performance. The Energy Advisor makes it easy to manage energy
across facilities by aggregating energy use by equipment, unit, area, and plant to
provide overall site energy efficiency.
Solution Approach
The suite of Plantweb Advisor applications for health, performance and energy are all based on a common infrastructure and
set of models that can be used for all types of assets. Emerson’s Plantweb Advisor Suite is built on OSIsoft’s PI System and
utilizes the full capabilities of Asset Framework (AF) to simplify implementation and configuration. The PI System enables over
300 connections to various DCS, PLCs, historians, and wireless gateways. A common web-based graphical user interface
serves up the appropriate set of data to the various users in the plant, primarily reliability engineers, process engineers and
energy managers. Basic configuration supports single vibration sensors (overall vibration and PeakVue) and pump speed
indicators for variable frequency drivers. Advanced configuration supports: additional vibration sensors, two motor bearing
temperature sensors, suction and discharge pressure sensors, strainer differential pressure sensor, seal oil pressure and
level switches, flow sensor, hydrocarbon leak detector, motor run/stop indicator.
